About Our Practitioner

Flo Minton

My name is Flo and I am the sound bath practitioner for Serenitees. I am a classically trained violinist, percussionist and composer. Music and creating sound have always been a part of my life, as has my struggle with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

For many years I searched for more holistic ways of coping with my ADHD, rather than turn to medications. While living in Sausalito, California I visited the famous Spirit Rock Center and was introduced to mindfulness meditation by Sharon Salzburg. Despite the fact that mindfulness meditation is widely recognized as an effective treatment for ADHD, I still struggled to calm my mind long enough to see positive results. I tried over and over but it continued to be difficult for me. When a musician friend suggested looking into sound meditation (or sound baths as they have since come to be known) it piqued my curiosity. She also recommended I read Healing Sounds, a powerful book by Jonathan Goldman. It was my first introduction to the transformative power of sound.

Using harmonics, chakra frequencies and binaural beats, I found that for the first time I was able to still my mind, concentrate better and finally enjoy the benefits of meditation. I knew that if using sounds to help achieve focus and relaxation could benefit me, it would likely also benefit others as well. I enrolled to study with Sound Therapist and Reiki Master Ali Young of Chiang Mai Holistic and became certified to conduct sound baths in both a group and private setting.

Together with the Tibetan and crystal bowls, koshi chimes and tuning forks I play live during each session, the sampled instruments I also use - drones, chants, ceremonial flutes, binaural beats, planetary frequencies, percussion sounds and atmospheric textures - combine to create a beautiful sonic tapestry that will transport and transform.

Our Sound Baths are not therapy. They are simply intended to facilitate relaxation and to act as an aid to meditation. We make no claims of medical benefit or healing outcomes. Sound baths are not recommended for individuals with pacemakers, individuals with epilepsy or women who are pregnant.

"A person does not hear sound only through the ears; he hears sound through every pore of the body. It permeates the entire being...."
